Apparently most of pagandom out there considers the Catholic Church more of a threat to their liberties than Al-Queda.

Conservative Catholics don’t like homosexuals, abortions, or liberated women, thus they are evil. Militant Muslims also do not like homosexuals, abortions, or liberated women, and polytheism is the greatest sin imaginable in their religion. But few people like pointing this out. It's politically incorrect, or something.

To my knowledge the Catholic Church has not officially killed anyone in quite a while. The Western World is still smarting from Al Quedas’s attack on 9-11.

Yet Pope Ratzinger and the Catholic Church are public enemy #1 to civil liberties and progress in the Western world. Hide in your closet, the Catholics are coming! Yet Osama bin Laden and his henchmen are poor, misunderstood Third World icons fighting Western Imperialism. And the war on terror against them is a vast right wing conspiracy designed to eliminate our civil rights.

This stuff is completely hysterical in every sense of the word...

Its very un-PC.

Frankly that view disgusts me. I had to literally quote Ratzinger to show that he has stated that
1) THe Church desires no temporal power
2) He believes the US separation of Church and State to be a better model than the official state churches in Europe
3) The Church apologized for its excesses in the past.
4) The Church is literally reaching out to nonbelievers, Jews, Protestants and Muslims in a spirit of peace

This doesn't look like a threat to me.

But the Al Qaeda types...well, they'd literally slit our throats while smashing our idols, and will enslave women. They do kill people whom they consider polytheists....and this includes Christians, not just us. They openly desire to kill them or convert them.

Go figure, that they're just oppressed Third Worlders out to defend themselves against the Imperialist Capitalist evildoers of the USA. Noam Chomsky said so, and he must be right.

Somehow the Inquisition is expected and feared (uhm, no witches were killed in the Inquistion people. THere were no burning times in that sense...people accused of being Witches were killed, along with those accused of heresy. But that's not the same as witches, at least in the Wiccan sense).

But real religious zealots, rather than imagined ones are to be feared.

Feh.

Go figure.

This subject has come up in my mind again after the recent cartoon ruckus.

I catch a lot of flack OR get the disdainful cold shoulder when reminding my fellow pagans of what you posted. It is SO worth it! :-)
