Apparently I can't unsubscribe from this community until I chose another moderator.

Does anyone want to take over as mod? As you can see it's quite easy to mod since no one really posts anyway.

Apparently most of pagandom out there considers the Catholic Church more of a threat to their liberties than Al-Queda.

Conservative Catholics don’t like homosexuals, abortions, or liberated women, thus they are evil. Militant Muslims also do not like homosexuals, abortions, or liberated women, and polytheism is the greatest sin imaginable in their religion. But few people like pointing this out. It's politically incorrect, or something.

To my knowledge the Catholic Church has not officially killed anyone in quite a while. The Western World is still smarting from Al Quedas’s attack on 9-11.

Yet Pope Ratzinger and the Catholic Church are public enemy #1 to civil liberties and progress in the Western world. Hide in your closet, the Catholics are coming! Yet Osama bin Laden and his henchmen are poor, misunderstood Third World icons fighting Western Imperialism. And the war on terror against them is a vast right wing conspiracy designed to eliminate our civil rights.

This stuff is completely hysterical in every sense of the word...

ursus77: On being a Libertarian Republican Pagan

I generally support the right of consenting adults to do as they will in the privacy of their own homes. I am far from believing our culture should giddily embrace every silly lifestyle out there, I merely am skeptical about the government’s right to prosecute people for having weird sex lives.

In the privacy of my own life, however, I’m fairly traditional, clean-cut and quiet. I prefer to chose my friends and colleagues from people who share a similar mindset. I don’t mind in the slightest being snobbish to people I find too bizarre for my sensibilities. Read more...Collapse )

This community is rather quiet.

In a private entry on my journal I noted that the Western World seems to be getting a bit more "conservative" in the post 9-11 era. Despite alleged scandal, George Bush was re-elected by a decent margin. Despite cries for a moderate from the Third World, the new Pope is a values conservative from Germany. If the Tories win in the UK, the pattern will be complete.

The more left-leaning pagans on my friends list - which is most of them, it seems -- appear to be writhing in agony or cowering in fear. Can't say this doesn't amuse me on some level. ;-)

In fact, the seething mass of hatred for anything remotely right-of-center or traditional in the wake of Bush & Ratzinger has caused me to leave most pagan forums. I'm convinced now more than ever that most of what we call paganism is nothing but a counter-culture protest against traditional and/or capitalist society.

Since my religion is basically dedicated to cultural traditionalism, I find most pagans to be in a completely different world from me. I feel more comfortable with conservative-leaning agnostics and Christians than I do with most self-described pagans who are on a counter-culture kick.

I'm wondering, do the rest of you ever feel this way?

I am a Republican so I thought I would add this to my friends list to see what GOP pagans have to say.

Hillary is now calling herself an Evangelical Christian.

Be sure to point this out to any pagan colleagues who are trying to escape Christian politicians. ;-)

*twiddles thumbs*

This community is pretty quiet. Does anyone actually want to discuss something? Any important issues that pagan Republicans should hash out?
